Two new Presidents for EBF & EWBF - press release from David Nash.

The new President of the English Bowling Federation for 2013 is Les Clark who is currently Chairman of North Essex County Bowling Federation, writes David Nash, (the EBF Publicity Officer). Les is a former police officer having joined the Metropolitan Police Cadets from school and retiring as a Chief Superintendent in 1984. He has always been a keen sportsman and as a youngster played cricket and football and when too old for these he says he took up golf and at one stage played off single figures. Les has been bowling for twenty five years and has been President of his own club, Boxford, for 15 years, and a keen county supporter serving on the Executive Committee for over ten years and taking the county presidency for three years.

As the new EBF President Les Clark says that “having finally reached the top of the ladder I am very much looking forward to 2013. I hope to visit all counties at least once during my year as National President. It is a privilege that happens to few people and I am grateful to those who assisted me in reaching the pinnacle of my bowling career. The year, I am sure, will pass in no time whatsoever”.

Meanwhile taking over the National Women’s Presidency is Northumberlands Karen Weites a native New Yorker, that’s New York in North Shields. Karen has two sons and ten grandchildren and runs a property management company in Hartlepool. Karen faces the big 6-0 on 23 November 2012, 4 days before being made National President, and says the timing couldn’t have been any better for having a double celebration.

In 1958 at the tender age of five her parents took her to Skegness to watch the National Finals. Every year we stayed at Ingoldmells and travelled into Skegness to watch the Finals. I have only missed 12 years going to Skegness since 1958. Karen says that “I have watched all the Presidents come and go over the years and when I was small I wondered if one day I would be privileged to join that elite club and this year my dream is coming true”.

At the age of fourteen Karen played her first county game and won her first National title in 1987 in the three bowls triples and repeated that in 2010. Now she says she only has time for work and bowls and that none of this would have been possible without her family who have been very supportive over the years knowing my love of the game. In line with this Karen says that her Presidential year “is being dedicated to my Mam and Dad, Ellen (Nellie) and Wilfred Bramley, I wish they were here to share this with me, but they introduced me to a sport I love and an ever increasing Federation Family for which I am eternally grateful”.
