National EBF & EWBF outdoor finals ~ Gorefield Girls do well.
At the National EBF & EWBF outdoor finals Skegness last week North Cambs relied on the ladies to keep the interest going right up to the finals. Margaret Hunt and June Warren, Gorefield BC played the senior womens pairs final on Friday and very narrowly lost 17 – 18 to Durham. Two other teams reached a semi – final, Margaret Hunt, Debra Wright, Gorefield BC lost the women's pairs 16 – 19 to the eventual champions Northumberland and Annie Engledow, Simon Peach lost the mixed pairs to Cleveland, the eventual champions 11 – 20.
Ladies Senior pairs – M Hunt, J Warren 20 – 10 Northumberland, against Northants won 19 – 16, against Notts won 24 – 10, lost final Durham 17 – 18.

Finally North Cambs must congratulate our next door neighbour county of Northants Men for winning the Victor Ludorum Trophy as the top men's county after winning the Adams Trophy, Veterans Singles and Senior pairs and runners-up in Pairs, 2 bowl rinks and 3 bowl rinks, a fantastic achievement.

North Cambs EBF & EWBF outdoor finals 2015
North Cambs county EBF President Ralph Jackson and EWBF President Lynne (Ditto) Quibell welcomed bowlers and spectators to Upwell BC over 7 seasons for the county outdoor finals and witnessed an excellent display of bowls. Margaret Hunt Gorefield and Jane Clifton March Town played in 6 finals each, Margaret won 5, Jane won 3 and Tony Reed of Murrow won all 3 of his finals.

Following on from last weeks good results against Hunts North Cambs played their last game of the season and had three winning rinks in the Adams against Linc's but lost overall by 22 shots.

For what is the first time in many years North Cambs won against Hunts Adams team to record their second win of the season. Stand in President Paul Bennett congratulated the team on their victory and thanked the players who had made themselves available at very short notice, enabling a full squad of 18 players.

Prior to North Cambs EBF playing their first home county game of the season against North Essex on 6th June, a minutes silence was held in respect of Christine Jackson, Daphne Houghton and Malcolm Brooks who passed away recently.

Daphne Houghton ~ 20th October 1933 ~ 8th May 2015 North Cambs EWBF President 1986-87
Funeral at St Matthews Church Eye attended by Margaret Hunt, Sue Tolliday, Paul and Trudy Bennett. During the eulogy by her daughter Sarah there was a comment made about her and Daphne being runner-up in a pairs competition at WIBC. On attending the wake at Manor Farm Community Centre there was a series of photographs on display and the first thing that caught my attention was the press cutting below for that game showing Daphne, Sarah, Jackie Hearle and Janet Savage.

North Cambs Competitors EBF and EWBF National indoor finals 2015 ~ 6th National Bowls title for Chris
Competing in the National EBF & EWBF Indoor finals at Newark IBC between 20th and 26th April North Cambs bowlers had some very close games.
Star for for the county was Christine Wadlow who competed in 5 events and won the EWBF 4 bowl senior singles title adding this to previous titles for indoor and outdoor won in 1998, 1999, 2009 and two in 2013.Being entered in 5 events meant that Chris spent a lot of time on the green and on Thursday played 5 consecutive games at 9.30am, 12.00, 2.30pm, 5.00pm and 8.00pm winning the last two to get through to the senior singles semi final at 12.00 noon Friday and then win the final on Saturday against J Vinter Linc's 21-8.

North Cambs held there indoor county finals at WIBC Harecroft Road, Wisbech over the weekend 20th, 21st and 22nd February where spectators were entertained to some excelent bowling.
There were a number of multiple winners who will be kept extremely busy during the National EBF & EWBF finals. Christine Wadlow 5 wins out of 6 finals, Frankie Howard and Robert Allen 3 wins out of 4 finals, John Chambers 2 wins out of 2 finals and Lynne Quibell 2 wins out of 3 finals.

The game started slowly for North Cambs being down after 5 ends but took the lead after 10 ends and at the end on 25 ends won on all four rinks 107 – 66
