Results EBF & EWBF National Outdoor Championships Skegness 2017

Highlight of the week was the Men's 3 Wood Triples ~ Jon Ivatt, Tim Tomizzi and Ian Lawson (Gedney Hill) who reached the final and played the Hunts team of Ed Elmore, Lionel Swannel and Nicky Brett (world no. 2) and lost 21 – 14, In previous round they beat Suffolk, picking up 4 shots on the last end 15 – 14, Lincolnshire 17 – 16 and semi North Essex 20 - 12

Ladies 4 Wood Singles ~ S Tolliday CMB) won 21 18 Derbyshire, won 21 – 20 Lincolnshire, lost in semi 21 – 17 to loosing finalist Suffolk

North Cambs BA ~ outdoor county finals 2017

North Cambs BA held their County outdoor championship finals at St Lawrence BC on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July. Games were played in varying conditions with a very quick dry green on Friday, mostly dry on Saturday with one shower and Sunday started dry but heavy continuous rain during the second session added difficulties to the play. Of the 12 clubs affiliated to North Cambs, competitors took part from CMB 6 wins, Gorefield 5 wins, Emneth 3 wins, March Town 3 wins, Gedney Hill 3 wins, St Lawrence 1 win, Murrow 1 win, King William 1 win and Marshland

Top individual bowler was Margaret Hunt Gorefield who won in 4 competitions.

Trophies were presented following each session by County Presidents EBF David Donaldson and EWBF Betty Reeve with National EBF President Paul Bennett and Andrew Overton Vice Chairman as MC. All County Champions will represent North Cambs in the National EBF finals at Skegness between 21st and 26th August.

North Cambs BA hold their County outdoor championship finals at St Lawrence BC on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July. All County Champions will represent North Cambs in the National EBF finals at Skegness between 21st and 26th August.

Spectators welcome at all games but note that refreshments will not be available at the green only at the Coach and Horses pub.

There is parking for disabled spectators behind the clubhouse but all other cars must be parked in the car park.

The final North Cambs Bowling Association match v Suffolk away was played on Saturday 8th July. Despite the unavailability of several players, 5 clubs provided the 18 bowlers needed for what was always going to be a difficult match against the team sitting top of the table. Unfortunately as the match was about to begin a North Cambs bowler became unwell and was unable to take any further part making the task even harder

After the match County President Dave Donaldson and Adams Team Captain Phil Cross both expressed their thanks to all the bowlers who have played in the six matches this year.

National President Paul Bennett "Proud in Purple" charity day on 29th July 2017 has been cancelled due to lack of support.

North Cambs. Bowling Association played their penultimate and final home EBF county game of the season on Saturday 1st July at March Town Bowls Club against a strong Lincolnshire side currently in second place in the league table.

Seven local clubs provided the 18 bowlers required for 6 rinks of triples resulting in defeat by 121-224.

North Cambs  EBF v Hunts ~ North Cambs. Bowling Association played their 4th EBF county game of the season on Saturday 24rd June away against a strong Huntingdonshire team which included Nicky Brett, former World Indoor Champion & England International, and 14 players with experience in the Hunts EBA Middleton Cup Team which twice has been losing finalists at Worthing. Several North Cambs players were having their first game of the season for the county. Huntingdonshire were comfortable winners 22 points – North Cambs 0 points.

Eight local clubs provided the 18 bowlers required for 6 rinks of triples resulting in defeat by 270 – 92.

National EBF President stirs up a win v Norfolk
National EBF President Paul Bennett was part of three rinks which won for North Cambs. Bowling Association when they played their county Adams game on Saturday 17th June at home against Norfolk.

As National EBF President you travel throughout the 13 EBF affiliated counties and this was his 8th visit to a County Adams, Newton and U25 game this season and the first opportunity to see his own county play and get a game. Six local clubs provided the 18 bowlers required for 6 rinks of triples for the match played at March Town and was the closest result ever recorded in recent times against a very strong county. Lost 184 – 158 shots, 16 – 6 points.

The Whittlesey Manor club had a bit of a disaster - yesterday the caterers said they would not be coming - so 2 of the Silver Vase ladies did the meal and made a good job of it, BUT there was no bar so they lost quite a bit of money and of course there were no cold drinks either anyway here is the result

North Cambs. Bowling Association v Northants team 3rd June 2017 played their 2nd English Bowling Federation county game of the season  away against local rivals Northants, winners of the Adams Trophy in 2015. The match was played at Whittlesey Manor Bowls Club.

Eight local clubs provided the 18 bowlers required for 6 rinks of triples. A good performance by all players against very strong opposition resulted in defeat by 193 – 136. Northants 20 points – North Cambs 2 points.

North Cambs. Bowling Association v North Essex Adams team 27th May 2017

First English Bowling Federation county game of the season at home against North Essex.

Due to a shortage of bowlers, this season they were only able to field one team in the Adams Trophy competition and had to withdraw from the Newton Trophy. Seven local clubs provided the 18 bowlers required for 6 rinks, a combination of players from last year’s Adams& Newton teams. The game was played at March Town Bowls Club and after 31 ends of bowls the teams had both scored 152 shots resulting in at draw. However North Essex won 4 of the 6 rinks giving them 13 points to North Cambs. 9 points.

Durham Centenary Trophy ~ CMB BC entertained Rookery Stowmarket in the first round of the DCT on Sunday 21st May with North Cambs President David Donaldson and Suffolk President John White in attendance, umpire was Steve Engledow.

Rookery are a very strong team having reached the National DCT final for the previous two years were eventual winners 58 - 115 shots.

The North Cambridgeshire Bowling Association competed in the National Indoor championship finals at Newark and played some very close games but competition was too strong and won only one first round game.
